Scoring plays

20th minute — Dhruv Girgenti from Nick Ayree, 1-0 Lakeland
27th minute — Girgenti from Kyle McHale, 2-0 Lakeland
35th minute — Carlos Del Monte from Arben Hoxhaj, 3-0 Lakeland
64th minute — Hoxhaj (penalty kick), 4-0 Lakeland

Man of the match — Dhruv Girgenti: The senior captain has been a driving force through the Hornets’ first three games. He scored Lakeland’s first two goals to set the tone against the Pirates, and now has four goals and two assists for the season.

Quick takeaways — This has developed into one of the best non-league rivalries in Section 1, but the series has been very streaky. In the first six meetings, Lakeland won five and tied once. Then Pearl River went on a four-game winning streak, which the Hornets snapped on Monday. This was their first win over the Pirates since 2013 and gives them a 6-4-1 edge since they began playing annually. … Based on each team’s performance, you could either say that Lakeland looks really good or that PR has a lot of work to do. It’s probably a combination of both. The Hornets displayed a versatile attack and got solid play from goalkeeper Andres Lopez (six saves), while the Pirates seem to lack the firepower they’ve shown in recent seasons.
