LAKELAND WINS 3rd CONSECUTIVE MATCH IN OVERTIME

In the past 7 days at Lakeland HS the Men's Varsity Soccer team has been pushed to 3 consecutive Ovetime sessions. Section 1 rules state that two extra 10 minute Overtime periods will be played in a Golden Goal format.

The 1st of three OT wins came on Saturday October 3rd at home vs Brewster HS. Brewster came in with a record of 6-1-2 and was near the top of the standings in Conference 1 League B. After 80 minutes of a scoreless match, one in which Lakeland had many good scoring opportunities- the game would be pushed to OT. In that 1st OT session, Michal Kociuba found the back of the net of off a beautiful flick from Freshman Gonzalo Prando.

The next game, played 4 days later at Mahopac HS, (6-1-2) pitted the two teams tied for first place in the League. The winner of this match was going to have the early 1 game lead on a round robin play of 10 games.  In this game- Lakeland struck first midway thru the 2nd Half when Senior Mark Tsao scored off an assist from fellow senior Michal Kociuba.   Mahopac was able to respond 10 minutes later to push the game to another Golden Goal Overtime session for Lakeland HS. This game- though needed almost all of the 20 minutes of extra time as Lakeland scored in the 97th minute off of a Corner Kick taken by Senior Captain- Dan Foci.  With the heavy winds- Lakeland's Captain was able to bend the ball right into the net- directly from the Corner spot!

The next game was played 3 days later on Saturday Oct. 10th, and it was HOMECOMING weekend at Lakeland HS.  This game was very similar to the Brewster match the week prior as it was again tied 0-0 after 80 minutes of play. But this time Lakeland only needed 35 seconds to finish of the game as Michal Kociuba did it again off of a very well placed cross from Micheal Dias.  Kociuba took the ball 1st time and drove it into the back of the net sending Lakeland to first place in the League (4-0-1) and more importantly well into the top half of schools who will play in the Class A playoff tournament at the end of the season

Lakeland is now 7-2-1 overall with 6 matches left to play.

The next 3 contests will ALL be played at Lakeland HS:
Tuesday Oct 13th: Fox Lane at Lakeland- 6pm
Thursday Oct 15th: Yorktown at Lakeland HS- 6pm
(GAME TO BE AIRED on MSG)
Saturday Oct 17th: Walter Panas at Lakeland HS - 7pm
